There is a new Captain James Kirk around. Star Trek had Captain James T. Kirk at the helm of the Enterprise, but this Captain Kirk is at the helm of the largest Navy destroyer ever built, and the ship set sail for the first time earlier this week.
Capt. Kirk was appointed to helm the USS Zumwalt in 2013. William Shatner himself sent the crew of the ship a letter just last year, according to a Business Insider report.

Now, the USS Zumwalt is ready to undergo sea trials. This winter, the crew on board will test the most technologically advanced ship ever built before delivering the ship to the Navy for use in 2016.
According to Business Insider, the new Capt. Kirk said the following before the ship set sail:
“We are absolutely fired up to see Zumwalt get underway. For the crew and all those involved in designing, building, and readying this fantastic ship, this is a huge milestone.”
