Star Trek: Discovery: CBS CEO Discusses Bryan Fuller’s Departure

Star Trek: Discovery TV show on CBS All Access: season 1 (cancel or renew?)

Why did Bryan Fuller leave Star Trek: Discovery? Recently, CBS Interactive CEO Jim Lanzone spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about the upcoming CBS All Access series.

Last October, we reported Fuller left the Star Trek reboot as showrunner. As of now, the new show is slated to debut on CBS All Access in May. The cast includes Sonequa Martin-Green, Doug Jones, Anthony Rapp, Michelle Yeoh, Chris Obi, Shazad Latif, and Mary Chieffo.

Speaking to THR, Lanzone said Fuller had to leave because of his commitment to Starz’ American Gods:

He deepened his commitment to American Gods [for Starz], the other show that he was making. Our time frame did not wind up [lining up] with the time frame of the show that he was already committed to.”

He later added that the show is still Fuller’s vision:

The good news is we have his entire vision for the show. He’s still the show’s creator. And Alex Kurtzman is still the executive producer. It’s essentially the same team, but his full-time commitment was not something we were able to secure.”

What do you think? Are you a fan of Star Trek? Are you excited for the new series?
