The legacy lives on. Deadline reports that Gene Roddenberry’s son, Rod, and Trevor Roth have joined CBS’s new Star Trek series as executive producers.
Gene Roddenberry created Star Trek in 1964.
The new series is the first original scripted series developed for CBS’s streaming service, CBS All Access. Hannibal’s Bryan Fuller will serve as showrunner alongside Alex Kurtzman and Heather Kadin as producers.
Additionally, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan director Nicholas Meyer will be a part of the new series. Earlier this week, he teased that the new series will probably go in a different direction from previous Star Trek iterations.
The new series is expected to premiere in 2017.
