Star Trek: Restored Original Enterprise on Display at Smithsonian

Star Trek season continues. The original USS Enterprise has been restored and is now on display at the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum, says The Hollywood Reporter.

The iconic ship model appeared in the original 1960s series created by Gene Roddenberry. It was restored in honor of the museum’s 40th anniversary and the show’s 50th.

Before, the ship was on display in the museum’s gift shop. Now, the Enterprise is in a climate-controlled case and equipped with modern LEDs.

From chief conservator Malcolm Collum:

It’s an iconic artifact, so we’re really treating this as something that is — it needs to be preserved and treated as authentically as possible.”
