Star Trek: The Next Generation made Patrick Stewart a name loved by Trekkies, but it is his hometown that is paying him a special tribute.
Stewart starred as Jean Luc Picard for seven seasons of Star Trek: The Next Generation and four film releases, but he had his start in the town of Mirfield, West Yorkshire.
The town’s rugby team decided to honor its native son by wearing uniforms that are inspired by the uniform Stewart wore during the television series.
Ryan Sparks, managing director of Mirfield Stags, spoke about the special tribute, according to The Mirror. He said:
“Sir Patrick Stewart is quite possibly the biggest name to have ever come out of Mirfield and we are proud to pay tribute to him in this manner. This is a simply fantastic playing strip and it looks great on the players.”
