Stars Earn Stripes: Cancelled? Returning for Season Two?

Stars Earn Stripes canceledLast summer, NBC was barraged with requests to cancel Stars Earn Stripes, their new reality competition. Eight Nobel Peace Laureates, military veterans, and numerous others protested the program because they felt it glorified and trivialized war and violence. It seems they may have ultimately gotten their wish.

While NBC has not publicly cancelled Stars Earn Stripes, the peacock network hasn’t ordered a second season for this summer, nor have they announced any plans to bring it back next season.

The protests may have influenced NBC’s decision, it was likely the show’s poor ratings that had the biggest impact. The six episodes averaged just a 1.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic with only 3.84 million total viewers.

The show was only on the air for four weeks and the numbers kept falling each episode. Had it stayed on the air longer, the ratings would surely have gotten even worse.

The sixth and final episode aired on September 3, 2012 and saw Todd Palin, Dean Cain, Picabo Street, and Eve Torres competing for the crown. The latter ended up winning the competition, benefiting the USO.

What do you think? Did you like Stars Earn Stripes? Are you unhappy that the show has been cancelled and that NBC hasn’t ordered a second season?
