Stranger Things: When Will Season Two Be Set?

Stranger Things TV show on Netflix: season 1 premiere (canceled or renewed?).

Stranger Things wouldn’t be Stranger Things without its 1980s setting, but when will season two take place? Recently, executive producer Dan Cohen spoke with Yahoo about the upcoming season of the Netflix series.

Earlier, we reported that at least three new characters will be joining the supernatural drama’s second season. Regular castmembers include Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Matthew Modine, Finn Wolfhard, and Millie Bobby Brown.

In the interview, Cohen said season two will further explore the mythology set up in season one:

We’ll be doing more than just a rehash of Season 1. We’re coming back with a few new characters, expanding storylines and mythologies, so it’ll feel like the stakes are raised and more is going on and really delivering on the promise and pushing for more. We want a sequel that feels like it’s bigger and badder and darker while answering more of the questions and getting deeper into what’s going on. [The Duffer Brothers] want it to be that great sequel that is satisfying and yet expands the world.”

He later revealed that the new season will still take place in the ’80s:

At one point, there was this idea of doing ’80s, ’90s, 2000s, and then Season 5 would be 2020, and it would catch up to present-day. But I think, at the end of the day, there was this world that we really loved and in making it, and we didn’t want to move away from these kids. There’s so many cool dynamics and mythologies. This world the Duffer brothers created was so awesome, and there’s still so much unanswered that it’s impossible to not want to continue into the next year.”

Season two of Stranger Things is slated to premiere next year.

What do you think? Are you a fan of Stranger Things? Are you excited for the new season?
