Superior Donuts: Season Two Ratings

Superior Donuts TV show on CBS: season 2 ratings (cancel or renew season 3?)

Last year, although it earned much lower demo ratings and drew a somewhat smaller total viewership than the cancelled The Great Indoors, CBS renewed its Superior Donuts TV show for a second season. We may never know if it was the premise, the writing, the cast, or an executive with a sweet tooth that saved this fledgling sitcom. What matters now is whether or not it can retain or even build upon its freshman season audience. Will Superior Donuts be cancelled or renewed for season three? Stay tuned. *Status update below.

A CBS comedy based on the Tracy Letts play of the same name, Superior Donuts stars Judd Hirsch, Jermaine Fowler, Katey Sagal, David Koechner, Maz Jobrani, Anna Baryshnikov, Darien Sills-Evans, Rell Battle, and Diane Guerrero. The story centers on an old-school Chicago donut shop owner, Arthur Przybyszewski (Hirsch), who is loath to keep up with the changing times. A young self-starter named Franco (Fowler) convinces Arthur to hire him to bring the shop (and Arthur) kicking and screaming into the 21st Century. In addition to Arthur and Franco, a colorful crew of regular customers keeps things lively at Superior Donuts. In season two, Arthur has to contend with Sophia (Guerrero), an Uptown gentrifier who parks her healthy breakfast food truck, in front of his shop.

The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — typically around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.

5/15 update: You can see the rest of the latest night’s ratings.

Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.

Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.

For comparisons: The first season of Superior Donuts on CBS averaged a 1.17 rating in the 18-49 year old viewer demographic and a total viewership of 6.244 million.
