The Assets: New ABC Series Steps in for Scandal

The Assets TV show on ABCABC has announced that The Assets, their new limited series (codewords for “please watch, you don’t have to make a long commitment and we promise to give you an ending”) will debut on Thursday, January 2nd. It will air in the 10pm timeslot while Scandal is a on mid-season break.

The network has ordered eight installments of The Assets. The show is based on the real life events of CIA counter-intelligence officer Sandy Grimes and takes place in 1985, during the final days of the Cold War.

Sandy (Jodie Whittaker) and her partner Jeanne Vertefeuille (Harriet Walter) vow to find the mole who would turn out to be the most notorious traitor in US History, Aldrich Ames (Paul Rhys). They’re in a race against time to save the Soviet intelligence officers from being caught and killed. Living her own double life at home, the beautiful wife and mother vowed to stop at nothing until she uncovered the truth.

The cast also includes Stuart Milligan, Julian Ovenden, Christina Cole, and Ralph Brown.

The Assets is based on the book Circle of Treason: A CIA Account of Traitor Aldrich Ames and the Men He Betrayed by Sandy Grimes and Jeanne Vertefeuile.
