An official statement says, “IFC was proud to be the home of The Birthday Boys and their unique and inventive comedy for two seasons. We thank these talented creators and wish them nothing but the best. We will miss the laughs, the farce and the pixilated male nudity.”
Members of the cast of The Birthday Boys had a sense of humor about the cancellation and said:
“We are surprised and saddened to hear that IFC had already chosen to cancel #TheBirthdayBoys series before our resignation as hosts. But we are relieved we conveniently announced our resignation as hosts minutes before IFC publicly announced their decision. We are smart.
Huge thanks to #TheBirthdayBoys fans for watching and huge thanks to IFC for 2 wonderful seasons! We’ll keep at it. Season 2 is slated to hit Netflix this year and the DVD will be packed with special features!”
The final episode, the show’s 20th installment, aired on December 19, 2014.
