Over the last nine months, a Mr. X has stolen over $5,000,000 from Anderson/Vaughan’s biggest clients. Mr. X finds a malcontents at a targeted firms and convinces them to copy sensitive files to a hard drive, which they then trade to Mr. X for a briefcase full of cash. Before each job, he sends Anderson/Vaughan an email reading, “Are you ready to play?”

Alice is planning her wedding to her venture capitalist fiancé, Christopher Hall (Peter Krause). After she just misses nabbing Mr. X in a well-planned sting, Christopher tells her he is sure she is closer to the suspect than she thinks.

In reality “Christopher Hall” is master con artist Ben Jones. When he narrowly evades being caught by Alice and her team, his partner and lover, Margot Bishop (Sonya Walger), tells Ben that Alice has outlived her usefulness. He must break off the relationship in 24 hours.

Margot and Ben’s other partner, Reggie Lennox (Alimi Ballard), sets up Ben’s extraction. Reggie says Ben is so “method” that when he takes on a con, he becomes his character.

Reggie knows Ben has fallen for Alice. Once “Christopher Hall” kisses Alice goodbye for the last time, Reggie gets into her place and erases all evidence, fingerprints, DNA, etc. that proves he even existed.

On their final morning together, Alice wakes to see “Christopher” has been watching her sleeping. Picking up on his solemn mood, she asks him what is wrong.

He proposes they run away together, immediately, and start all over. Alice laughs it off, but is unnerved by his mood, so later says she will do so, after she nabs Mr. X.

Later, at the office, she tells Valerie that Christopher wanted to elope. Valerie tells her to forget the case and go marry her man.

Alice leaves “Christopher” a voice message to that effect, but by the time she arrives home, Reggie has already eradicated any trace of Ben at Alice’s home and at “Christopher Hall’s” office.

Before long, Alice figures out her erstwhile fiancé is Mr. X. By then, though, Ben, Margot, and Reggie have obtained Anderson/Vaughan’s client information and can access their accounts. Ben has also walked off with Alice’s life savings of 1.4 million dollars.

After Danny re-encrypts the client database, Alice and Valerie use a client to turn the tables on the team of cons. Sophie takes it a step further and drains their accounts, leaving the crooks desperate for cash.

Former Interpol and current FBI Agent Jules Dao (Jacky Ido) knows Anderson/Vaughan is after Mr. X, who he has been tracking for a long time. Fearful of ruining the firm’s reputation, Alice convinces Valerie that they cannot cooperate with him, or come clean with their clientele.

Dao knows Anderson/Vaughan has not been straight with him. Meanwhile, Ben plants a painting, fraught with emotional meaning, in Alice’s home. The game is on.
