TV show description:
In this classic sitcom, Robert “Rob” Petrie (Dick Van Dyke) is the head comedy writer for The Alan Brady Show TV series and works in New York City. Sharing an office with him are co-writers and friends Buddy Sorrell (Morey Amsterdam) and Sally Rogers (Rose Marie).
They answer to balding Mel Cooley (Richard Deacon) who’s the show’s producer as well as the brother-in-law of egomaniac star Alan Brady (played by creator of the series Carl Reiner). While the team works together to produce humorous content for Brady’s show, it’s Cooley who is the target of the jokes, especially from Buddy.
At Rob’s home in suburban New Rochelle, New York, there’s laughs in life’s unscripted moments with loving wife Laura (Mary Tyler Moore), son Ritchie (Larry Mathews), and their neighbors, dentist Jerry Helper (Jerry Paris) and his wife Millie (Ann Morgan Guilbert).
This sitcom provides viewers with the unique experience of seeing a main character deal with both the travails of work and home life. Episodes follow the Petries as Laura dyes her hair blonde to win Rob’s attention, the jealousy that ensues when gorgeous movie star Valerie Blake (Joan Staley) appears on The Alan Brady Show, and the repercussions when Rob writes Laura into a skit on the show and portrays her as a snoop.
