A reality show competition, Glass House aired last summer for 10 episodes. The format sounded a lot like CBS’ long-running Big Brother series and CBS thought so too. They sued ABC and tried to get the premiere halted. They didn’t succeed.
However, the ratings were so poor that CBS had little to worry about. The season ended up averaging a dismal 0.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 2.43 million viewers. One of the final episodes drew just a 0.6 rating and 1.59 million.
CBS dropped their lawsuit towards the end of the run, citing the show’s poor ratings as the reason. A network statement noted, “The viewers have spoken and delivered the ultimate form of justice against The Glass House.”
They continued to pursue suits aimed at Glass House producers who’d signed confidentiality agreements while working on Big Brother.
Glass House was not included on ABC’s summer or fall schedules and the show’s page has been removed from ABC’s website. Coupled with the low ratings and the legal issues, it’s safe to say that The Glass House won’t be back for a second season.
What do you think? Did you like The Glass House? Was it as good or better than Big Brother?
