The Last Tycoon is now in the works for Amazon. Matt Bomer from American Horror Story: Hotel and White Collar is set to star in new series that will focus on the 1930s film scene.

The series is based on the last unfinished novel written by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Deadline shared the basic plot of the new series:

“Inspired by the life of film mogul Irving Thalberg, on whom the book’s protagonist Monroe Stahr was based, The Last Tycoon centers on Stahr (Bomer), Hollywood’s first wunderkind studio executive in the 1930s as he climbs to the height of power pitting him against his mentor and current head of the studio Pat Brady, a character based on Louis B. Mayer. With Stahr as a focal point, the series delves into the true violence, sex and towering ambition of Hollywood in the ’30s.”

The series is being written by Billy Ray, who will also executive produce the series and direct the pilot. No release date is set for this series.
