The Newsroom: to be canceled or renewed?While the characters on Aaron Sorkin’s Newsroom try to put on a show that attracts big ratings, HBO is doing the same thing in the real world. Will viewers return for season two? Will the series be cancelled or renewed for season three? We’ll have to wait and see.

The Newsroom typically airs on Sunday nights and there are nine episodes this season (vs 10 last year). The cast includes Jeff Daniels, Emily Mortimer, John Gallagher Jr., Alison Pill, Thomas Sadoski, Dev Patel, Olivia Munn, and Sam Waterston.

Below are the TV show’s ratings for season two, the best way to tell if it will be cancelled or renewed for season three. These figures will be updated as the weeks progress so check back to see how things are going:

Final season averages: 0.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 1.79 million total viewers.

0.7 demo rating (-13% change) with 1.67 million (-5% change).
Season averages: 0.77 in the demo with 1.79 million.

Episode 02-08: Sunday, 09/08/13
0.8 demo rating (+33% change) with 1.76 million (+19% change).
Season averages: 0.78 in the demo with 1.81 million.

UPDATE: The series has supposedly been renewed for a third season.

Season averages: 0.77 in the demo with 1.81 million.

Compared to the series debut a year earlier, the second season premiere of The Newsroom was up slightly in total viewers (vs 2.14 million).


Reference point: Season one of The Newsroom averaged a 0.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 1.95 million total viewers.
