Checkmate! Today, Netflix announced they’ve ordered a new TV show called The Queen’s Gambit.

The drama series follows “the life of an orphan chess prodigy, the story – set during the Cold War era – follows Beth Harmon from the age of eight to twenty-two, as she struggles with addiction in a quest to become the greatest chess player in the world.” Anya Taylor-Joy stars.

ANYA TAYLOR-JOY TO STAR

The series is based on Walter Tevis’s novel The Queen’s Gambit.

Chronicling the life of an orphan chess prodigy, the story – set during the Cold War era – follows Beth Harmon from the age of eight to twenty-two, as she struggles with addiction in a quest to become the greatest chess player in the world.

Gotham Award winner and BAFTA Rising Star nominee Anya Taylor-Joy (Split, Glass,The Witch) will star as Beth Harmon. Anya will also star in upcoming films Playmobil, Emma, and Last Night in Soho as well as season five of Peaky Blinders and Netflix seriesThe Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance.

Two time Academy Award nominee, Scott Frank (Godless, Logan) will serve as writer, director, and executive producer on the series.
