TV show description:
Thirtysomething Sarah Tompkins (Parker Posey) seems to have it all. She’s a successful children’s editor at HarperCollins and owns her own loft in Brooklyn. She has a no-strings-attached relationship with handsome Marcus Sonti (Scott Cohen). But something is missing from her life — a baby.

Sarah’s parents, Ronald (Ron McLarty) and Talia (Dianne Wiest), are constantly pressuring her about settling down. They want grandchildren, and they want them now. Her last relationship went on for 10 years but didn’t end with a ring or a child so they have to wonder, “What is she waiting for?”
Sarah finally succumbs to her parents’ wishes — and her own biological clock — and decides to have a child on her own. But, just when she’s decided that she wants to become a mother, Sarah’s doctor tells her that she’s unable to have children. Now she wants to have a child even more.

Determined to bring a child into the world, she decides to find her estranged sister, Coco (Lauren Ambrsoe), and to ask her to be her surrogate. Coco is unlike her older sister in every respect. When Coco hears what her sister is proposing, she finds it completely ludicrous. But ,when she learns about Sarah’s latest project at work, The True Adventures of Jezebel James, she softens. Jezebel James had been Coco’s imaginary friend from childhood. Touched that her older sister would be inspired by this detail from her past, she agrees to carry Sarah’s child. Coco moves in with Sarah and the real adventure begins.
