Deadline‘s Nellie Andreeva reports AMC has ordered The Son TV show straight to series. AMC will present at the Television Critics’ Association winter press tour, today. This Texas drama is based on Philipp Meyer’s award winning novel of the same name.
The Son was a 2014 Pulitzer finalist, although the prize went to The Goldfinch, by Donna Tartt. Per Deadline, Meyer will write and produce with Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy. Deadline also names Kevin Murphy as showrunner and Michael Connolly as producer.
Excerpted from Deadline:
AMC has been diversifying its series development and production model with straight-to-series dramas: Into The Badlands, which was a breakout last fall, and international co-productions Humans and The Night Manager. While Into The Badlands and The Walking Dead both bypassed the pilot stage with an episodic order, this is the first time AMC has taken the extra step of fleshing out the projects on the page before making a series-order decision.
The Son […] is a multi-generational epic telling of the story of America’s birth as a superpower through the bloody rise and fall of one Texas oil empire.
What do you think? Do you like the sound of The Son TV series? When it premieres on AMC, will you check it out?
