The Tonight Show with Jay Leno: Guests Scheduled for the Final Week of Shows

Though he may take some jabs over his recent marital problems, Mel Gibson isn’t shying away from taking part in the final week of Jay Leno’s Tonight Show reign.

The last batch of The Tonight Show with Jay Leno episodes are set to kick off on Monday, May 25th. Gibson is set to appear and musician Lyle Lovett will stop by to perform as the musical guest.

On Tuesday, singer-songwriter Dwight Yoakum and actor-politician Arnold Schwarzenegger are set to appear. As you may recall, the “Governator” made history by announcing his candidacy on the Tonight Show coach back in August 2003.

Comedian Wanda Sykes and singer-songwriter Sarah McLachlan are scheduled to come by on Wednesday, May 27th. Sykes may be able to pick up some tips from Leno as she’s set to host her own Saturday night talk show for FOX, beginning in September.

And on Thursday, Jay’s very first guest, Billy Crystal, and musician Prince are set to say goodbye.

There’s no word on who will guest on the May 29 series finale or, if there will even be any. Leno’s predecessor, Johnny Carson, preferred to end his legendary 30 year run rather simply in June 1992, by showing various clips and chatting with Ed McMahon, Doc Severinsen, and the studio audience. Reportedly 55 million people tuned in to say goodbye on that special night.

Conan O’Brien will take over the Tonight Show chair on June 1st. Leno will shift to primetime and his new nightly program will begin airing in the Fall.
