TV show description:
This weekly late night talk show is hosted and executive-produced by Emmy Award-winning comedian, actress, and author Wanda Sykes. Stand-up comic Keith Robinson co-stars as her sidekick and announcer. Porsche (Brant Kaiwi in drag) serves up drinks and sassy commentary as their the bartender.
Each episode, Sykes starts the show by giving her distinct take on a variety of topics including news, politics, sports, and pop culture. She then leads a discussion with a trio of famous actors, comedians and musicians. They talk about the popular headlines of the week, often with drinks in hand.
From there, Sykes moves on to her Wandarama segment in which she comments on various topics, with input from Robinson and Porsche. The shows are also sprinkled with commercial and pop culture parodies that star Sykes.
Episode 21
The episode begins with a commercial for a mock 1970s style action movie, Nefertiti Jackson. Sykes starts the show with a monologue largely centering around national banking issues.
Her panel for the evening consists of actor Bryan Cranston, actress Regina Hall, and rocker Tommy Lee. They humorously discuss recycling and conservation, Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger’s being punished for sexual misconduct, a study that says many married people aren’t having sex because they’re too tired, and another study that says married people live longer than single people.
In Sykes’ Wandarama segment, she jokes about a number of topics including parents being encouraged to keep kids in school rather than take part in “take your child to work day,” a store clerk who won the powerball jackpot, an Australia publisher who’s reprinting a cookbook because of typo in a recipe (black “people” instead of black “pepper”), the supreme court not understanding sexting, the supreme court protecting the rights of a person who sold videos of pitbull fights, and Arizona illegal immigrant legislation.
This is followed by a follow up to the opening film parody and asks “Whatever happened to Nefertiti Jackson?” Sykes has a Go Green moment and suggests conserving fresh drinking water by switching to vodka. She closes out the show by reading viewer emails.
First aired: April 24, 2010.
The show has not been revived or remade.
Behind the Scenes
The show was not cancelled until May but, in the series finale, Sykes seems fairly doubtful that the show will be back for a second season.
