TV show description:
This drama is unique in that it shows a legal case being built, concurrently, from the perspective of both the defense and prosecution. The goal is to keep viewers shifting their opinions on guilt and innocence, right up until the end of the episode.

Kathryn Peale (Maura Tierney) is the Senior Trial Assistant District Attorney and Deputy Bureau Chief of Trial Bureau 50 in New York. She was brought up in small New England town where her father was the sheriff. She left home to attend Georgetown, which was followed by a few years of rebellion. She eventually got back on track and Kathryn attended Yale Law School. She could have had her pick of high-paying positions but instead decided to work in the District Attorney’s office and worked her way up the ladder.

Chad Griffin (Sean Wing) is an Assistant DA for Trial Bureau 50. He still has a lot of learning to do but has the makings of a great trial lawyer and somehow pulls it all together when it truly counts. He failed the New York Bar Exam the first time around and his politically-connected father helped him get a position with the Manhattan DA’s office.

Terrence ‘Edge’ Edgecomb (Eamonn Walker) is the Chief of Trial Bureau 50. He’s a veteran of the Justice Department where he rose to the top. He spent some time teaching in Los Angeles but left the sun and surf when he was recruited by the DA’s office in New York because of his grasp of legal and policy issues. Having a calm disposition, Edge is well-liked and the only one who can tell Kathryn when she’s wrong.

On the other side of the courtroom is Jimmy Brogan (Rob Morrow), a powerful defense attorney who was born and raised in Hell’s Kitchen. When Jimmy was young, his grandfather was railroaded for a murder he didn’t commit. This event has driven Jimmy to conquer the legal system, a system that he doesn’t trust. One of New York’s rising criminal attorney stars, he’s now a senior partner at James Brogan & Associates. Jimmy and Kathryn have been friends since their days at Yale together. The two frequently find themselves sparring against one another in the courtroom.

Alejo Salazar (Anthony Ruivivar) is a partner at James Brogan & Associates. He’s always there with a legal citation when his boss needs one, whenever a client balks at high fees, or if Jimmy misspeaks to the press. They share a mutual respect for each other’s abilities and work legal magic together. Alejo is gay and both he and his partner are ultra-connected in NY and DC.

Lena Boudreaux (Christine Adams) is a new associate with the firm but has several years of experience working for a federal court judge and then, a top New York firm. She’s very ambitious, enjoys high-stakes cases, and uses her background to get ahead.

Supported by their respective teams, the Kathryn and Jimmy are evenly matched with a strong streak of competitiveness. They’ll do anything for their clients, have great passion for the law, and end up creating two different stories from the same set of facts. They know that, at the end of the day, the only thing that matters is what the jury believes.
