The X-Files: FOX’s Fringe Pays Homage to Its Sci-Fi Predecessor

More than a few people have compared the popular Fringe series to The X-Files. Both shows focus on the paranormal and overarching conspiracies. Last night’s episode, the second season premiere of Fringe, made a couple direct homages to the days of Mulder and Scully.

During the episode’s first few minutes, the shape-shifting soldier killed a guy and broke his apartment. As the shifter is about to assume the person’s identity, the camera pans across the guy’s big-screen TV and Mulder (David Duchovny) can be seen, seemingly staring at the attacker.

And then, later in the episode, when the senate subcommittee is grilling Agent Broyles (Lance Reddick), they mention “the old X designation.”
