Following an hour edition of American Idol, Touch got a solid launch. Kiefer Sutherland and company attracted a very positive 3.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 11.9 million total viewers. The pilot episode easily won the timeslot, in part because ABC opted not to run an original episode of Modern Family at 9pm.
Per the fast affiliate numbers, Touch retained 60% of the lead-in demo from Idol. FOX has used Idol to launch several new shows over the years — Glee, Human Target, Lie to Me, and Fringe — but Touch retained a higher percentage than any of them.
Touch also had the best premiere numbers for any FOX drama this season — beating Terra Nova and Alcatraz. The series had the third best series debut of FOX’s current season, bested only by New Girl and Napoleon Dynamite.
The show won’t become a regular part of FOX’s schedule until March 19th but there certainly seems to be some interest in Touch.
What do you think? Did you watch Touch? Are you looking forward to the show’s return? Will the ratings hold up or will it be cancelled after one season?
