Training Day: How the CBS Series Won’t Be Like the Movie

How will the new Training Day series compare to the movie? Recently, the creators of the upcoming CBS TV show discussed how it will differ from Antoine Fuqua’s 2001 film, Deadline reports.

Similar to the movie, the cop drama stars Bill Paxton as a older, renegade LAPD detective who teams up with a younger, by-the-book cop played by Justin Cornwell.

During this month’s Television Critics Association press tour, EP Will Beall said there will be some distance between the series and the movie:

We wanted to respectfully give them some distance on the show. I liked what Noah Hawley did with Fargo, how the TV show existed in the same universe. Aside from the snow scrapper in the snow, the stories didn’t scrape together.”

He added that the show will center more on the relationship between the two main characters:

[The show] isn’t about Kyle’s seduction, but Frank’s redemption. It’s about these guys who push and pull on each other.”

Training Day premieres on CBS on February 2nd at 10 p.m. ET/PT.

What do you think? Are you a fan of the movie Training Day? Will you watch the TV series?
