True Blood: Alan Ball Signed for Season Five; Renewed?

True Blood season fiveAt the current TCA press tour, True Blood creator and executive producer Alan Ball said that he has closed a deal to do another season of the HBO TV series. While HBO has not officially renewed the show for year five, it’s sounding like a done deal.

Ball noted that he re-signed in response to rumors that he was planning to leave after the current season, year four. Ball notes that nothing could be further from the truth and he’s still having a lot of fun on the series. He revealed that he and the writers are already working on story ideas for season five.

Deadline later learned that Ball’s new contract is for multiple years but commits him to only season five of True Blood. At that point, he has the option to decide if he wants to stay with the show as showrunner or take a backseat on the series and develop new projects for the cable channel.

True Blood is currently in its fourth season which is comprised of 12 episodes. The season finale is scheduled to air on September 11th (along with Curb Your Enthusiasm’s).

What do you think? Do you think the quality of the show will suffer if Ball steps down? Should season five be the end?
