True Detective fans will have to wait a bit longer than planned for the series to return. HBO had planned to launch season four before the end of 2023, but now the anthology series will return in January 2024, per Deadline.
Jodie Foster and Kali Reis star in season four, titled True Detective: Night Country. The drama anthology will follow a pair of detectives investigating the murder of eight researchers in Alaska. Fiona Shaw, Finn Bennett, Isabella Star Lablanc, Aka Niviâna, Anna Lambe, and Joel D. Montgrand also star in the series.
Season three of the anthology series aired on HBO in 2019. A reason for the fourth season delay was not given, but it is likely due to the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.
The specific premiere date for True Detective season four will be announced later.
