The story begins as fashionable teen True Jackson (Keke Palmer) is selling sandwiches with her friend Ryan (Matt Shively) in the fashion district of New York City. By chance, designer Max Madigan (Greg Proops) sees True and compliments her on her clothes. Max then realizes that the clothes True is wearing are his own designs, but she’s altered them to suit her own tastes. Max loves the altered pieces and decides to hire the 15-year-old designer to be a Vice President of Youth Apparel for his company, Mad Style.
