Star Trek — Rumors have been circulating that George Takei will be making a cameo as an elder Captain Sulu in J.J. Abram’s upcoming Trek movie. Nice as that may have been, it’s been confirmed that this rumor is false.
In related Star Trek movie news, Leonard Nimoy is scheduled to film his Mr. Spock scenes nest week. A trailer for the upcoming film is expected to start running in theaters with Abrams’ Cloverfield movie beginning January 18, 2008.
Moonlight and The Big Bang Theory — Speaking at the UBS Global Media & Communications Conference, CBS President Les Moonves said that it was likely that the network was going to renew both Moonlight and Big Bang for second seasons. Oddly though, Big Bang was given a full 22 episode season order but Moonlight hasn’t gotten past the initial 13 episode order. Still, Moonlight is the only freshman CBS series to remain on the air during midseason.
Moonves also said that, if the writers strike continues, CBS may choose to air Showtime’s hit series about a serial killer, Dexter. Though he said the episodes would likely be edited for the network audience, the Parents Television Council immediately released a statement of outrage.
Law & Order — The crime drama returns for its 18th season on Wednesday, January 2nd with a special two-hour episode and the addition of two former Kidnapped castmates, Jeremy Sisto and Linus Roache.
Law & Order: Criminal Intent — The spin-off has been running on cable’s USA Network. Reruns of Criminal Intent will begin airing on NBC on January 9th as a lead-in to Law & Order.
John from Cincinnati — HBO’s short-lived series is coming to DVD on March 25, 2008. Two of the 10 episodes will include commentary by series co-creator David Milch. Hopefully these will shed some light on some of the show’s more confusing moments.
Father Knows Best — If you’re a Desperate Housewives fan, you surely saw Sunday’s episode in which a tornado set down in the middle of Wisteria Lane. The next episode has been filmed but ABC likely won’t air it until the strike is finished and they have more new episodes to air. As a result, we’ll have to wait to find out exactly who didn’t survive. One sure fatality is the home of Mrs. McClusky (West Wing’s Kathryn Joosten). The house has a long history but is perhaps best known to classic TV fans as the home of the Andersons on Father Knows Best.
Schedule notes — The New Adventures of Old Christine is returning to CBS on January 28th, taking the place of Rules of Engagement. The Big Bang Theory will also take a break, making way for a new sitcom entitled The Captain. The cast of that show includes Jeffrey Tambor (Twenty Good Years, Arrested Development), Raquel Welch (Central Park West), Valerie Azlynn (Smith) and Joanna Garcia (Reba).
In related news, Jericho and Big Brother return on February 12th and take the place of The Unit and Cane on Tuesday nights. Game show Power of 10 will return on Wednesday, January 2nd for a six week run. A second night of Big Brother will take the 8pm timeslot after that. Stay tuned!
