TV News Briefs: Sopranos, Pitts, Old Christine, Get Smart, and Real Wedding Crashers

The Sopranos — Nick D’Urso, the manager of New Jersey’s Satin Dolls (better known to HBO viewers as the Bada Bing!), has been holding off on performing renovations on the club. He told NorthJersey.com, “I got an inside tip that they’re going to do a [Sopranos] movie, so I don’t want to make any major changes. I’m not going to reveal my sources, but we got a call from somebody [working] on the script.” Sopranos creator David Chase was skeptical of the news while an HBO spokesperson gave a firm “no comment.”

The Pitts — Allison Janney (The West Wing) has been cast as mother Liz Pitt in FOX’s animated remake of The Pitts. The live-action sitcom about the world’s unluckiest family was cancelled in 2003 after a brief run. Dylan Baker (Drive) and Lizzy Caplan (The Class) have already signed on to reprise their roles from the original series as father Bob Pitt and daughter Faith. Andy Milonakis (The Andy Milonakis Show) has been cast as son Petey. If next week’s table read goes well, The Pitts will go straight to series.

The New Adventures of Old Christine — CBS’ Julia Louis-Dreyfus sitcom is in danger of being cancelled once again this year. Last season, NBC stood ready to pick it up if CBS dropped the series. TV Guide reports that another network has expressed interest this time around. Since Warner Bros. produces the sitcom, could it be the ratings-starved CW network?

The Real Wedding Crashers — The Style Network has picked up the rights to air NBC’s cancelled reality series. Only four episodes aired on the peacock network before it was pulled off the air. Style will be airing all six installments, giving them bragging rights for the world premiere of two episodes. Wedding Crashers airs on Tuesday nights a 9pm.

Get Smart — The highly-anticipated Steve Carell/Anne Hathaway remake is coming to theaters on June 20th. Taking advantage of the movie publicity, Universal Studios is releasing the DVD of the original Get Smart movie on June 17th. The Nude Bomb was released in theaters in 1980 and features the return of Don Adams as Agent 86. The movie does have some funny moments but, with the exception of a cameo by Larabee (played by Adams’ cousin, Robert Karvelas), the rest of the TV cast is missing. Stay tuned!
