TV News Briefs: The Unit, Old Christine, The Mole, Stargate: SG-1 and Quincy, M.E.

The Unit — Executive producer Shawn Ryan is still waiting to hear on the fate of The Unit but thinks the series’ chances are good. He told Susan Young, ” We’ve always had to wait until the May upfronts to find out our fate (even after our first season when we were the top rated new show of the year!). I imagine it will be the same again this year.” He added that, if The Unit does return, there will be some exciting changes in store for viewers.

The New Adventures of Old Christine — TV Guide is reporting that ABC has been talking about picking up the Julia Louis-Dreyfus sitcom if CBS decides not to pick it up for season four. Old Christine is currently in its third year and has been doing better in the rating in recent weeks. The sitcom was in a similar situation last year when NBC expressed interest. ABC will soon announce that it will be airing Scrubs next season, following NBC’s cancellation.

Quincy, M.E. — Series star Jack Klugman is suing NBC Universal because he believes they owe him residual profits for the 1976-83 series. Klugman’s copy of the contract, which entitles him to 25% of profits, was lost when his agent died and NBC Universal refuses to supply him with a copy. The studio claims that, though the series continued for eight years and is still running worldwide, the series is $66 million in the red and therefore there are no profits to be shared. Klugman told the Associated Press, “I recently heard that they made $250 million and it’s still on TV in Germany. I don’t want their money. I want my money. I worked my tail off. I got up at four in the morning and stayed at the studio. I did rewrites, I edited.”

The Mole — Jon Kelley, a veteran of the Extra news-magazine, has been tapped as the new host for ABC’s revival of the reality series competition. The Mole but will debut at 10pm on Monday, May 26th, and will be paired with The Bachelorette.

Stargate: SG-1 — Though the series may be gone, the characters live on in made-for-DVD movies. The first, Stargate – The Ark of Truth, was released last month, and has been selling really well. FreeClyde Music will be issuing a limited release of the movie’s soundtrack on April 18th. The CD will include a 16-page booklet with articles by Ark of Truth writer/director Robert C. Cooper, executive producer Brad Wright and music composer Joel Goldsmith. The first 100 pre-orders will be signed by Goldsmith. And if that’s not enough, TVShowsonDVD.com reports that Stargate – Continuum, the second SG-1 follow-up movie, will be released on July 29th. Stay tuned!
