While it is not technically cancelled, the Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt TV show will end its run with the upcoming season four, which premieres on May 30th. The news isn’t all bleak, though. First of all, it sounds like this was a creative decision. Secondly, Netflix is reportedly in talks with producer Universal Television to end Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt with a movie, which would debut on Netflix after the fourth and final season. If it comes to be, the movie should give fans some closure and a proper sendoff to this popular comedy.

Netflix sitcom, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt stars Ellie Kemper, Tituss Burgess, Carol Kane, Jane Krakowski, Fred Armisen, and Mike Carlsen. It follows Kimmy Schmidt (Kemper), who was held by Indiana doomsday cult leader, the Reverend Richard Wayne Gary Wayne (Jon Hamm) for fifteen years. Resolving to reject the “victim” label, Kimmy decides not to return to the Midwest. Armed with little more than an eighth grade education, light-up Sketchers, an over abundance of optimism, and a new, quirky circle of friends, Kimmy takes on New York City

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt to End After Four Seasons; Netflix in Talks for Finale Movie

In an exclusive, Deadline reports:

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, whose fourth season premieres May 30, will be ending its run on Netflix, I have learned. I hear that the Internet network and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt producer Universal Television are in talks for a movie that would bring the praised series to an end.

The movie would be written by series co-creators Tina Fey and Robert Carlock after they wrap work on Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt‘s upcoming fourth season, which is currently in production. Netflix and Uni TV declined comment.

As recently announced, Season 4 of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt will launch in two parts. The first, consisting of six episodes, will be available May 30, with the remaining seven episodes premiering at a later date.

[After] four seasons and over 50 episodes, word is that everyone felt it was time to end the series. In addition to her busy career in TV and film, Fey recently ventured into theater with the Mean Girls musical landing 12 Tony nominations earlier this week.
