John Legend is stepping in front of the camera on Underground. Deadline reports the musician will guest star on season two of the WGN America series.
Set in the Antebellum South, Underground follows a group of slaves trying to escape to freedom in the North using the Underground Railroad. The cast includes Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Aldis Hodge, Jessica De Gouw, Alano Miller, Christopher Meloni, and Marc Blucas.
Legend, who serves as an executive producer on the series, will play abolitionist Frederick Douglass in season two. He joins fellow new castmember Aisha Hinds, who is set to play Harriet Tubman. The new season of Underground is slated to premiere in 2017.
