Up All Night: Cheers Writer on Challenges of Switching Formats

It was recently reported that NBC had ordered some additional episodes of Up All Night, their struggling Thursday night sitcom. In addition, the network will be changing the show from a single-camera comedy to a more traditional multi-camera sitcom with a studio audience. Something has to be done or the show will surely be cancelled.

The Odd Couple and Happy Days both made the switch in their early days and those shows got much better. It remains to be seen if the change will help Up All Night.

Emmy-winning writer, director and producer, Ken Levine has worked on legendary shows like M*A*S*H, Cheers, Frasier, Wings, and Everybody Loves Raymond. He’s also written a new book called The Me Generation… By Me (Growing Up in the ’60s).
