V: A Feature Film Is in the Works — from Desilu?

V The Movie TV show on NBC: (canceled or renewed?)

V is coming to the big screen. Syfy reports Desilu Studios is developing a film version of the NBC/ABC TV series.

From Kenneth Johnson, the sci-fi drama first premiered in 1983 and “chronicled an invasion of Earth by vicious reptilian aliens who disguised themselves as friendly humanoids, triggering a human resistance movement.” The mini-series spawned a sequel, V: The Final Battle, and a weekly TV show, V: The Series, which ran from 1984 to 1985. A reboot of the series aired on ABC from 2009 to 2011.

The film version of V will be written and directed by the series’ original creator, Kenneth Johnson.

From Johnson:

We are delighted to team up with Desilu to bring the timeless — and timely — story of resistance against tyranny into the 21st Century. V will be the first of a cinematic trilogy which will tell the full epic tale in the manner I always envisioned.”

TV fans will remember that Desilu Productions was the company that was started by Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz. Desilu produced classic shows like I Love Lucy, The Untouchables, and the original Star Trek. In 1967, the studio’s assets were acquired by Gulf+WEstern and became part of Paramount Television, later CBS Television Studios. The Desilu name was purchased by businessman Charles B. Hensley and was relaunched in 2017 as a new studio.
