The Vampire Diaries: Creator Talks About Season Eight

The Vampire Diaries

The Vampire Diaries will return to CW next fall for its eighth and possible final season. Over the weekend, Ian Somerhalder shocked fans at an event when he revealed that season eight would be the last season. This reveal came after Kat Graham announced her departure from the series after season eight.

TV Line reached out to the creator of the series, Julie Plec, after Graham made her announcement, and she was asked for the potential of a ninth season for the CW series.

She said the following:

“I’m going to be dead honest with you: I was so happy to get Season 8 that even the idea of Season 9 is so far away — I haven’t even started thinking about it. I know Kat made her announcement; I wish her everything she wants, and she can stay as long as she wants.”

She also revealed that the writers would start putting together season eight in May. Her comments came before Ian Somerhalder’s announcement on Sunday in Nashville, but Plec has said in interviews in recent months that the series would end when Somerhalder, and his co-star Paul Wesley, were ready to end the story of the Salvatore brothers.
