The Vampire Diaries will premiere its final season on CW next month, and those behind the series are hard at work figuring out how the drama will end. The biggest question is the romantic endgame. Who will Elena Gilbert be with when the final credits role. With Nina Dobrev set to return for the series finale, fans wonder if she will end up with Stefan, who is played by Paul Wesley, or his brother Damon, who is played by Ian Somerhalder?
Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec both spoke with Entertainment Weekly, and fans will see a happy ending. Williamson said that “decisions are being made. People’s lives are hanging in the balance. Relationships hang in the balance. Who’s going to end up with whom?”
As for Julie Plec, she said the following about crafting the series finale:
“Fans are always talking about endgame as though endgame has been chosen from minute 1. I don’t know that you could talk to a single series creator that would say confidently ‘Where I started is where I finished and there was no way in hell I was going to stray from that path.’ Dawson’s being the perfect example.”
