We have some great news for fans of The Vampire Diaries, which will end its eight season run on The CW on Friday, March 10, 2017. Elena Gilbert is coming back! Nina Dobrev has just announced she is returning for The Vampire Diaries TV series finale.

The actress, who left The CW series after season six, posted a photo of the TVD finale script to social media. Check it out, after the jump. The Vampire Diaries also stars Paul Wesley, Ian Somerhalder, Kat Graham, Candice King, Zach Roerig, Matthew Davis, and Michael Malarkey.

Nina Dobrev to Return for The Vampire Diaries TV Series Finale on The CW

When Dobrev left The Vampire Diaries, the plan was to bring her back for series finale. Rather than killing her off, the writers crafted a mystical coma for the Elena character, to explain her absence from the storyline. Her life is tethered to that of her best friend, Bonnie Bennett (Graham). Only when Bonnie dies will Elena awaken.

The network has been trying to woo Dobrev back since at least August of last year. Entertainment reporters characterized the talks at the time as “difficult.”

Earlier this week, Somerhalder, who dated Dobrev before he went on to marry Nikki Reed, said he did not know if Nina would return for the finale, but indicated that even if she didn’t, Elena’s presence would loom large, because of Damon’s bond with her.

The Vampire Diaries TV series finale will be delayed by one hour. While the show usually airs at 8:00pm ET/PT, the network will first air a special one hour retrospective, The Vampire Diaries: “Forever Yours.” Check it out.

What do you think? Are you still watching The Vampire Diaries TV show? If you stopped watching after Nina Dobrev left, will you tune in anyhow, to catch her in the finale?
