The Vampire Diaries is getting ready to wrap its run after eight seasons, and fans are wondering if Nina Dobrev will return for the finale in March. It has been teased since her departure at the end of season six that fans will see Elena Gilbert again before the series ended.

There are some issues with her return to the The CW series though. TV Line revealed that Julie Plec is working to bring her back for the end of the series, but there are some obstacles. The news outlet said the following:

“Executive producer Julie Plec has “no update” on Nina Dobrev’s potential return before the series ends in March, citing “availability” as a major hurdle in the process.”

There are big things ahead before the final credits role. Stefan switched on his ripper side once again on the series, and that will cause some issues for those around him. Plec teased that:

“As Stefan finds himself more tempted by the darkness around him, Damon’s going to become frustrated by the road his brother wants to travel down.”

There will also trouble between Stefan and Caroline. Fans will see some sad moments for the couple during the second half of season eight.
