The Vampire Diaries: Will Nina Dobrev Return for Season Eight?

The Vampire Diaries

The Vampire Diaries aired its finale on CW on Friday night, and the voice of Elena Gilbert played a major role in what pulled Damon to the dark side. With Elena’s voice being heard, fans are now wondering if that means fans will see the return of Nina Dobrev to the series for season eight.

Julie Plec spoke with TV Line about the huge Elena presence on the series, and she revealed that Dobrev did return to the set to tape the audio for the moment. She said the following:

“In this particular case, she came in and did the ADR, [short for automated dialogue replacement]. I reached out and said, ‘We can either cobble it together from a bunch of episodes, or you can come in and see everybody and do ADR. She chose to do it in person, which was great, because it was a nice little personal Nina visit.”

Does this mean Nina Dobrev will make more visits during season eight? Not likely. Julie Plec made it clear that she is sticking to her original plan. Fans will see Elena return for the series finale, but Plec did tease that plans could change. She said:

“Obviously things can change throughout time, if the show goes on longer than we expect it to, or if we all collectively decide it would be fun to bring her back earlier, and she wanted to. But in my opinion, she was very clear about what she wanted the next step in her life to be, and she’s doing a great job of achieving that. So I’m sticking with my side of the plan, which is to bring her back at the very end.”
