Hot off the Halloween weekend, Syfy is sinking its teeth into a Van Helsing project. According to Variety, the network has picked up a new adaptation of the Dracula character that will feature a female lead.
Director and playwright Neil LaBute is set to run the series which will follow Vanessa Helsing, “the next in line of a lineage of warriors who now must lead mankind against a world controlled by vampires.”
The series has been picked up for 13, hour-long episodes, and production is slated to begin in January 2016. Nomadic Pictures is producing.
From Nomadic Pictures co-chairman, Chad Oakes:
Van Helsing represents a new mythology in sci-fi by challenging traditional vampire rules. The series is unique in exploring a world completely dominated by vampires, while the human characters have to learn the importance of working together to ensure their survival. Mike and I are thrilled to team up once again with the talented Neil LaBute to deliver an amazing series.”
