Show creator Rob Thomas and Kristen Bell have launched a Kickstarter project and are hoping to raise at least $2 million to get things moving. According to Thomas, Warner Bros. (the studio that produced the show and holds the rights) gave them the go-ahead to take their shot at getting the project underway.
He writes, “They were extremely cool about it, as a matter of fact. Their reaction was, if you can show there’s enough fan interest to warrant a movie, we’re on board.” If the project is funded, the movie would shoot this summer and likely be released sometime in 2014.
Contributors to the campaign will receive various rewards for their donations, ranging from a PDF of the finished script ($10) to tickets to the premiere, signed items, and even a small role in the movie ($10,000).
The project is open for contributions for a month. It opened this morning and has already raised $1,760,000 of the $2,000,000 needed.
I think it’s safe to say we’ll be seeing a Veronica Mars movie next year.
What do you think? Are you looking forward to seeing a Veronica Mars movie? If you’ve contributed, which tier did you choose?
UPDATE: The $2 million goal has been met — and the total keeps going higher!
