Veronica Mars: Positive Movie News? Rob Thomas Hopeful

Though fans of the Veronica Mars series have been pining for a movie ever since the show was cancelled in May 2007, the prospects haven’t been all that promising. After all, it couldn’t muster enough viewers to stay on a small network. How many people would pay to see a feature film?

Interestingly, Warner Bros. acknowledged the fan interest in the movie over the weekend. Via the studio’s Twitter feed comes this message: “Thanks for all of the Veronica Mars LoVe! Please send your film requests and petitions to VeronicaMarsMovie@warnerbros.com”

If you send something to the address, you’ll receive the following auto-reply:

Thank you for your interest in a VERONICA MARS movie. This is an automated response; due to the volume of mail we receive, we are unable to respond to individual messages, but rest assured, we are reading all of the messages we get. The fan support has been incredible, and we really appreciate your loyalty and enthusiasm towards the show.

Creator Rob Thomas tells TV Squad that he was surprised to hear about the tweet. He’s not sure however if this means the project is any closer to happening. He said “It gives me a glimmer of hope, but I’m just like everyone else wondering, ‘What does this mean?’ I hope it means it’s under consideration, but I have no insider knowledge on that front.”

What do you think? Is the movie any closer to becoming a reality or is this just the studio’s attempt to contain messages from crazed fans?
