Vinyl: HBO President on Cancelled Music Series

Vinyl TV show on HBO season 1 canceled; no season 2

Why didn’t Vinyl make the cut? Recently, HBO programming chief Casey Bloys sounded off on the cancelled music series, Deadline reports.

From Martin Scorsese, Mick Jagger, Rich Cohen, and Terence Winter, the drama followed a record executive (Bobby Cannavale) in 1970s New York City. The cast included Olivia Wilde, Ray Romano, Ato Essandoh, Max Casella, P.J. Byrne, J.C. MacKenzie, Birgitte Hjort Sørensen, and Juno Temple. HBO cancelled the series this year after one season.

When asked why the network cancelled Vinyl after renewing it already, Bloys said the show was too expensive:

It didn’t land. With limited resources, we didn’t think the retooling was worth the producers’ time if it would only move the needle a little bit.”

What do you think? Did you watch Vinyl? Do you think it should’ve been renewed?
