The Walking Dead: AMC CEO Addresses the Show’s Future

The Walking Dead TV show on AMC: (canceled or renewed?)

The Walking Dead just debuted its eighth season a few weeks ago, but what’s next? Recently, AMC CEO Josh Sapan discussed the future of the TV show.

Based on the comics by Robert Kirkman, the popular zombie drama stars Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Lauren Cohan, Chandler Riggs, Danai Gurira, Melissa McBride, Lennie James, Alanna Masterson, Josh McDermitt, Christian Serratos, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

During an interview with Wall Street analysts, Sapan revealed AMC has big plans for The Walking Dead and the franchise could last for decades:

The use of the word ‘franchise,’ we don’t take lightly. It’s not a sloppy or casual word. We’ve studied the best. Some have been around 30, 40, 50 years. We have a chance for a lot of life in the franchise.”

So far, season eight of The Walking Dead has been a success for AMC. While ratings have dropped slightly since last year, the season is holding strong with an average rating of 4.51 in the 18-49 demo and 10.181 million viewers. For comparison, season seven averaged a 5.39 rating in the 18-49 demo and 11.349 million viewers.

What do you think? Do you watch The Walking Dead? Do you think it has long-term franchise potential?
