The Walking Dead ended its sixth season on AMC last month, and the final moments of the episode shocked fans. In fact, the season six finale stirred up such a reaction from the fans that it is still being talked about.

The finale introduced Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Negan. After a long speech, he proceeded to strike and kill one of the remaining survivors of Rick’s group. However, the identity of that person was not revealed. Fans will learn who died when the series returns in October.

That was a part of the reason for the strong reaction to the finale, and now Robert Kirkman has shared his opinion on the finale of season six in an open letter contained the latest issue of the comic.

According to Digital Spy, he said the following:

“The season six finale has certainly caused a fervour online. EVERYONE IS TALKING ABOUT IT. Some people love it. Some people are indifferent. Some people HATE it. We weren’t trying to game the audience, we weren’t trying to drive you crazy, and we certainly weren’t trying to FORCE you to come back for season seven – we hope you were always planning on doing that and still plan on doing that.We did want you to talk. And talk you are. The speculation, the frustration, the possibilities, the theories – honestly, in my mind, that stuff is FUN. I honestly feel like that’s something fun for the fans to do during the break. I know people are angry over this, but that wasn’t our intent. The idea was that after six seasons of a show, we wanted to stay on your mind and give you something to talk about.”

Kirkman also apologized to the fans that were upset by the finale, and he promised an “awesome ride” in the season seven premiere. He asked fans to treat the two episodes as a two-parter. He even mentioned that Star Trek: The Next Generation always ended their seasons on a cliffhanger with a two-part episode. That is how most series do it these days.

However, fans were truly upset by the end of the finale. Did you watch The Walking Dead season six finale? Were you upset by the ending? Tell us what you think.
