Wednesday TV Show Ratings: Supernatural, Neighbors, Survivor, Guys with Kids, Animal Practice, X Factor

Wednesday, October 3, 2012 ratings — The eighth season of Supernatural premiered last night. On top of that, we had original episodes of The Middle, The Neighbors, The X Factor, Survivor, Guys with Kids, Animal Practice and the season finale of Oh Sit!. Oh yeah, and there was some debate going on too.

On The CW, the finale of game show Oh Sit! started the night with a 0.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 0.91 million viewers. That was down by 25% week-to-week in the demo but, not to worry, it’s already been renewed for a second season.

The season premiere of Supernatural followed with a 0.8 demo rating and 1.80 million viewers. That was on par with last season’s Friday night debut but it’s hard to judge this opening considering that it was airing opposite the debates on four other networks.

On FOX, it was an hour version of The X Factor with a 3.4 rating and 9.26 million viewers, essentially flat when compared to last week’s. The network’s airing of the debate drew a 2.8 in the demo with 6.98 million viewers. The post-debate coverage drew a 1.8 rating with 4.88 million.

On CBS, Survivor: Philippines drew a 2.9 rating with 10.49 million viewers. That was down by 6% week-to-week. CBS’ debate coverage drew a 3.0 demo rating with 10.18 million. The post debate coverage attracted a 2.0 in the demo with 6.95 million.

On NBC, there was a bit of positive news for the newbie sitcoms. Animal Practice was up by 7% with a 1.5 rating and 5.22 million. Guys with Kids was up by 13% with a 1.8 rating and 5.5 million. NBC had the highest-rated debate coverage so they likely benefited from that.

The peacock network’s airing of the debate drew a 3.4 in the demo with 9.91 million. The post-debate coverage attracted a 2.5 in the demo with 7.55 million.

And finally, on ABC, The Middle garnered a 2.2 rating with 7.93 million viewers, down a whopping 24% in the demo. The Neighbors fell a stunning 38% in the demo to a 2.0 rating with 6.61 million viewers. Once has to think that, if Neighbors hadn’t preceded the debate, the numbers would have been even worse.

The alphabet network’s airing of the debate drew a 3.0 in the demo (tying CBS) with 10.12 million. The post-debate coverage attracted a 2.2 demo with 7.70 million viewers.

As per usual, these are the fast affiliate numbers from Nielsen. The daily finals will be added to the appropriate show pages when they become available later today.

What do you think? Are you surprised by gains and losses of the new sitcoms? Did you watch the Supernatual debut or the debate? If the latter, on what channel? What were you watching?
