Not quite. The final edition of the program that aired on Saturday night, has created more buzz than the show ever did during its run. The final 2-3 minutes featured Chung perched atop a grand piano in a peach gown singing an often off-key version of “Thanks for the Memories.” The piano didn’t appear to be miked which allowed for Chung’s vocals to be heard all the more clearly. Unfortunately. The lyrics were reportedly adapted by a writer from The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and included, “We came to do a show/for very little dough./By little, I mean I could make more working on skid row.” For her part, Chung has maintained that it was all done as a joke and should be taken in that spirit.
The real joke is that, the footage of her swan song has generated more interest and viewership online than any part of the show has before. If MSNBC re-ran it, I’m sure the ratings would be through the roof. Since that’s unlikely, you can see the footage (courtesy of YouTube), click here. You might want to consider turning the volume down.
