Remember on Bewitched when Dick York, the actor playing Samantha’s husband, was replaced by Dick Sargent? Well, the same thing’s about to happen to another Sam according to EW, this time on ABC’s Samantha Who? sitcom. Apparently Timothy Olyphant (Deadwood) is so busy working on FX’s Damages that he’s not available to reprise his role as Christina Applegate’s ex-boyfriend, Funk. As a result, they’re recasting the role with Billy Zane (Twin Peaks). Geez, don’t you think that’s messing with poor Samantha’s noggin a bit too much?
William H. Macy (Sports Night) is returning to ER in the February 5th episode. He’ll be reprising his Emmy-nominated role as Dr. David Morgenstern which he first played in 1994. Macy’s played the role in over two dozen episodes.
Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas is working on a new half-hour comedy for pay-per-view cable station, Starz. Party Down follows a group of wannabe actors who pay their bills by working for a Los Angeles catering team. The cast includes Mars veterans like Ken Marino and Ryan Hansen, as well as other TV show vets like Martin Starr (Freaks and Geeks), Adam Scott (Tell Me You Love Me), Jane Lynch (Help Me Help You), and Lizzy Caplan (The Class).
Kristin Chenoweth (Pushing Daisies) will co-star in the new series from David E. Kelley (Boston Legal) called Legally Mad. The quirky legal drama revolves around a brilliant and relentlessly cheerful lawyer (Chenoweth) who joins her father’s firm. Kelley said, “I could only picture Kristin playing this role. I’ve wanted to work with her for a long time and can’t wait to reveal her as someone who’s completely mad.”
Matt Lanter is getting a new zipcode — 90210. Though he played the President’s clean-cut son on Commander in Chief, Lanter is set to become the show’s newest bad boy, Liam. He’ll be the new love interest for Naomi (AnnaLynne McCord) starting in February.
Tracy Pollan (Family Ties) has signed on to star in The Natalee Holloway Story for Lifetime. The TV movie tells the story of a teenage girl who disappeared in 2005 during a class trip to Aruba. Pollan will play Holloway’s mother, Beth Twitty, the author of the book on which the movie is based.
Marissa Jaret Winokur (Stacked) is set to host a new reality series for Oxygen. Dance Your Ass Off will combine weight loss with dancing in a competition format. The actress competed earlier this year on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars and is currently reprising her Tony-winning role as Tracy Turnblad in Hairspray on Broadway. The musical closes on January 4th.
Barbara Eden (I Dream of Jeannie) will star in a new TV movie for the Hallmark Channel. Always and Forever also stars Dean McDermott (Tori & Dean: Inn Love) and Rena Sofer (Just Shoot Me!) and is expected to air in September 2009.
Connor Trinneer (Star Trek: Enterprise) recently completed filming a guest-starring role on Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. He also finished work on Termination Shock for Sci Fi Channel. The TV movie centers around an undercover government mission to recover cargo from a distant planet.
Kevin Sorbo (Hercules: The Legendary Journeys) is taking on a new movie role for Sci Fi. Paradox is based on a comic published by Arcana Studios. In the movie, Sorbo will play a homicide detective in an alternate version of Earth that’s ruled by magic. He’ll be investigating a series of murders that have been committed through strange methods, science.
And finally… Wendy Diamond, a producer and one of the judges from CBS’ Greatest American Dog, got a rare honor on Christmas Eve Day. She rang the New York Stock Exchange’s opening bell. Stay tuned!
