Starz is getting the royal treatment. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the network has greenlit a sequel to their historical mini-series, The White Queen.
Titled The White Princess, the sequel will follow the events of the original 2013 series, which starred Rebecca Ferguson, Amanda Hale, and Max Irons.
The original mini-series was based on the first novel in Philippa Gregory’s The Cousin’s War book series, which details the events of England’s War of the Roses from the perspective of the female historical players. The White Princess will pick up with “the rocky marriage between Princess Elizabeth of York and King Henry Tudor” in 1485.
White Queen showrunner Emma Frost will return for the eight-episode mini-series.
From Starz managing director Carmi Zlotnik:
The White Queen was a phenomenal performer at Starz. There is a dearth of programming that tells women’s stories and The White Queen was embraced with great success by audiences worldwide. The passionate fanbase for Philippa Gregory’s historical novels are undeniable and we are confident The White Princess will become the next must-see fandom drama series.”
