While some reports have made it sound like the Kelley series was essentially a done deal, the veteran producer says that’s not exactly true. He told Zap2It, “There’s no real deal in place yet, but yeah, my intent is to take a stab at it… I’ve been working on it between scripts for Harry’s Law. It’s a very, very different genre for me, a very tricky beast. I won’t know whether I’ve cracked it or not until I’ve finished it, but it’s going.”
Kelley noted that he hasn’t committed to doing the series yet because he still needs to figure out if he can “make the franchise work for me.”
He continued, “I don’t want to delude Warner Bros. or anybody else that I should be doing it. The way I’ve always worked has been to write a script and discover, in the process of the writing, if it’s a fertile and creative place where I want to live. If I feel I can make the characters my own and it’s a world rich enough for me to revisit, that’s a good sign to me that it’s a series worth doing.”
One person who thinks Kelley would be great for the job is Lynda Carter, the actress who played Wonder Woman on the memorable 1975-79 series. Last month, she told Fox and Friends, “He’s great at the underlying comedy and character development… I spoke to him several weeks ago and he is perfect for it because he will really give the characters life. It’s not just going to be a cartoon or a comic book thing, which is really what I think we tried to do.”
When asked if she would potentially have a role in the new show, Carter simply said, “I don’t know.”
